The Biloxi Shuckers have the best overall record in the Southern League posting 52 wins and 34 defeats. Beginning Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. the Shuckers, the Southern League South Division first-half champs open a 5-game series against Chattanooga.
The Lookouts won the first-half of the Southern League North Division but since that time Chattanooga has had a number of their top prospects called up by their parent club, the Minnesota Twins. After Monday the Lookouts had posted only 4 wins and 13 defeats in second-half action and occupy last place in the North Division standings. The Birmingham Barons have been red-hot running off a 14-3 record to lead the North Division.
The Shuckers are 9 and 9 in the second-half and trail Pensacola in the South Division. The Blue Wahoos have posted an 11-7 record. The Mississippi Braves and Mobile BayBears were 10 & 8. The Jacksonville Suns have an 8-10 record.
The Lookouts and Shuckers will play Wednesday through Saturday at MGM Park beginning at 7:10 each night. On Sunday the game is slated for a 5:10 p.m. start.
Following Sunday's game, the BayBears and Shuckers open a two-games series Monday night (July 20) at 7:10. The 7-game homestand concludes Tuesday night July 21.
In Southern League battingg Biloxi shortstop Orlando Arcia ranks among the top ten battin.313 with 46 RBI and 24 doubles. Nick Ramirez carries a big stick. He has 136 runs batted in with 12 home runs and is batting .278.
The Shuckers have three of the top-seven pitchers in the Southern League. Brent Suter is second in the league with a 1.94 earned run average. Frank Baptista of Tennessee leads the league with a 1.70 ERA.
Tyler Wagner(6-4) carries a 2.50 earned run average with 66 strikeouts and Jorge Lopez(8-3) HAS 86 strikeouts and a 2.58 ERA.
