D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

When the Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort opens, protecting the multi-million dollar investment will be a top priority for D'Iberville city leaders. They say that's why the city is already investing in two new fire trucks that will be on line in the coming weeks.

But if a fire ever does occur at the resort, specialized equipment will have to be used to in order to save lives and property. So the city is moving quickly in that regard.

"We are in the process of ordering a new ladder truck, which is about $1 million, maybe $1.2 million," said City Manager Bobby Eleuterius. "We have three funding methods to pay for this because we now have a 14-story structure in the city that we've never had before."

If a new ladder truck cannot be delivered before the casino opens, city officials say they may work out an inter-local agreement with Biloxi to use that city's ladder truck in the event of a fire.
