HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Workers are putting the finishing touches on the new North Harrison County Industrial Park. Monday morning, county supervisors agreed to allocate $1 million for infrastructure work at the complex.

"All the water, sewer is in. All the drainage is in. The roads have been cut. The first layer of asphalt is down on the roads. Curb and gutter is in. All we have is probably about 30 more days left and we'll be complete with that project," said executive director of the Harrison County Development Commission, Bill Hessell.

The park will offer large parcels for potential business and industry.  In the current industrial park, 35 acres is the largest space available. Along with size, there are other benefits.

"It's in a good location. It has highway and rail. And so we think it's a good place," said Supervisor Marlin Ladner.

With the infrastructure nearly complete, the next big challenge is filling the 600 plus acres with industry. Recruitment efforts have been underway for some time. In fact, a prospective tenant visited just a few days ago.

"We have actually seven RFI's or requests for information on the park out right now. We had actually, Saturday, we had a company in that visited the park. So, we're real excited about the opportunity," said Hessell.

County leaders say the future development here will provide an economic boost for the entire region.

"This is not just going to benefit Harrison County, this will benefit our neighboring counties. Stone County, Hancock County, Jackson County. We're the total package here in South Mississippi," said Supervisor Windy Swetman.

The new industrial park is located off Old Highway 49, at Sadler Road in Saucier. The total cost for the industrial park is around $6 million.
