BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Proposals for two major economic development projects are up for review in downtown Biloxi. The development group Biloxi Lodging LLC. applied to redevelop the old Santa Maria Del Mar Apartment building and the former Dees Chevrolet property.

Biloxi Lodging LLC. is the same group that revitalized the White House Hotel and is currently working on developing the old Casino Magic property.

Biloxi Community Development Director Jerry Creel said the company wants to transform the old Santa Maria Del Mar building into a 160-unit luxury hotel with a swimming pool and other amenities.

The other application is to reactivate City Place using a previously approved master plan for the former Dees Chevrolet property. Creel said the multimillion dollar project will include residential dwellings, commercial retail stores, restaurants, a hotel and a bank.

If the Development Review Committee approves the project, it will stretch from McDonald’s on Highway 90 to Howard Avenue and from Main Street east to Dukate Street.

Both proposals will go before the DRC on Wednesday, July 15, at 9:30 a.m. at the Community Development Building on MLK Jr. Boulevard.
