The Biloxi Shuckers needed to beat Montgomery to even the 5-game series at 2 wins apiece. It didn't happen. The Biscuits prevailed 10-7 and picked up win number 3 against 1 loss to the Shuckers with game five set for 7:05 p.m. Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Johnny Hellweg started his first game on the mound for the Shuckers and gave up 5 runs on 2 hits, 5 base on balls, and 2 strikeouts in 2.1 innings. Shuckers newcomer Derek Eitel relieved Hellweg and he lasted 1.2 innings. The Biscuits scored 2 earned runs against Eitel on 3 hits and 1 base on ball. Eitel recorded 3 strikeouts. Martin Viramontes and Manny Berreda pitched the final four innings. Hellweg (0-1) suffered the loss.
A total of 12 walks and 4 errors played a major role in the setback Tuesday.
Biloxi's bats were red-hot. Designated hitter Nick Ramirez had 2 hits in 3 trips to the plate, scored 2 runs and had 2 runs batted in. Ramirez belted his 12th home run on the season in the 4th inning off Biscuits starting pitcher Ryne Stanek (4-2) who got the win. Stanek gave up 5 runs (5 earned), on 6 hits, 2 base on balls and 3 strikeouts.
Biloxi catcher Adam Weisenburger had a good night at the plate. He banged out 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 2 RBI and hit his 2nd home run on the season along with a triple.
First baseman Taylor Green was 2 for 4. Nick Shaw had one hit in 4 trips to the plate, scored a run and had 1 RBI.
The loss drops Biloxi to 49-31 on the season. Montgomery is now 41-38.
