JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Jackson County Supervisors are getting closer to starting a project that has been 10 years in the making.

Supervisors hosted a public forum Tuesday night to show residents development and landscaping plans for a $13 million road widening project along Cook Road. The meeting allowed residents to find out more about the corridor project by asking questions. Residents also wrote their concerns on comment cards for the project engineers to review.

With all of the growth in D'Iberville, Cook Road has become a heavily traveled connector road, and supervisors are hoping to see some of that economic development overflow to cook road which is why they want to be prepared.

“Some of the things we’re looking at were some unified signage, some access management issues, some medians, maybe a bike path or pedestrian path,” said Michele Coates who is the Jackson County Planning Director.

Residents say widening the road will make it safer, but there are still concerns about how it will affect their properties. Engineers say it will be another year before they could break ground on the project.
