BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Harrison County is moving forward with a planned boat launch and boardwalk project in West Biloxi. The county just received the final easement needed to build a planned boat launch and public park near the foot of Camellia Street, across from Treasure Bay Casino. Work can now begin on that $400,000 project.

The next phase of development includes a beach front boardwalk providing beach visitors easier access to restaurants, condos and other businesses in the area.

"We had $40,000 in tidelands to do all the architectural work for the boardwalk," Harrison County Supervisor Windy Swetman. "So, David Hardy is our architect; he's done all the work. It's all been approved and paid for via tidelands funds, and now we're moving forward on it."

Supervisor Swetman says the county has worked the past two years on the boat ramp and boardwalk project. The county has requested $2.5 million in tidelands money to help fund the next phase of the boardwalk.
