All Moss Point students to receive free meals next school year

When students in Moss Point return to class for the upcoming school year, their parents and guardians will have one less thing to worry about. All students, regardless of their household income, will be provided with free breakfast and lunch. And it's all thanks to the school district's decision to expand the Community Eligibility Provision.

"This program will allow all MPSD students to focus on their studies without being distracted by hunger and parents will have less paperwork and no worries about lunch accounts," said Jessica McCovery, Director of Child Nutrition "The students will benefit most with access to the nutritious meals, removal of the stigma and less time in the cashier lines."

The Community Eligibility Provision of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, allows qualifying high-need school districts to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students.

According to the 2013-2014 No Child Left Behind Report Card, 91 percent of MPSD students were already eligible for free or reduced lunch. The school district will now receive full federal reimbursement for all of the meals served.
