GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

Two Gulfport men spent Independence Day behind bars after allegedly robbing a convenience store early Saturday morning. Dennis Avery Bostwick, 22, and Tyler Lee Britton, 18, are both charged with Armed Robbery.

Witnesses at the Kangaroo gas station on Three Rivers Road said a man wearing a bandana on his face and carrying a gun entered the store around 5:23am. The man demanded money from the clerk. Once he got it, he jumped in a waiting vehicle and got away.

Investigators were able to track down that getaway car to the area of Whitney Drive and Trace Drive. When the suspect saw officers, he jumped out and tried to get away, but was stopped by a taser.

Police said Bostwick was identified as the suspected robber; Tyler was a passenger in the vehicle and was also arrested.
Both men are being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility in lieu of $100,000 bonds.

The Mississippi State Legislature is back in session and as usual a fight is brewing over money. Still unresolved is what to do with  $750 million coming from BP over 17 years because of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil disaster. To the people here on the coast, there is no question that all of the money should be spent on projects in South Mississippi. But so far, the powers in Jackson and the rest of the state won't agree to that.
