BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

When we have beautiful weather, the beach is one of the best places to be. Add a national holiday like the Fourth of July, it becomes one of the busiest places to be on the coast.

The beach in Biloxi was crowded early Saturday morning with families claiming their spots for a day of family fun. The McVay family from Orange Grove was one of those families who came out to celebrate the fourth on the beach, but it's not their first time.

"We've usually come down in the evening and watch the fireworks, but this year we decided to come down, enjoy the day and just make a day of it," Larry McVay said.

Larry's seven-year-old daughter, Cheyenne, was excited to spend the day on the beach with her family, but is looking forward to when the sun goes down so she can fire up her favorite fireworks.

"I like the ladybugs. They spin up in the air and then they explode all these multi-colors," Cheyenne said with excitement.

"We're from the west coast originally and it's one thing we love about it out here is that we can do this. We can light our fireworks and just make a day of it on the beach with the family and have a good time," Larry said.

Larry works overseas and this is his first time in four years he's been able to be home for this national holiday. As a military veteran, his family is passionate when it comes to celebrating their independence.

"We hold true to the traditions and what the holiday is about and we're very big about celebrating when it comes to our national holidays," Larry said.

"I feel very blessed," his wife Edirne said. "You know, it's amazing the history that we have in this country and the fact that we've had people that fought for our independence and it makes you very proud so I'm happy to celebrate it with the rest of the country."
