Investigators Have "Several Leads" In Case Of Murdered Teen

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd says his department has several leads in the case of a Gautier teen murdered this weekend.

Gautier High School student Michael Meldren, 18, was found over the weekend in a heavily wooded area of Vancleave, off of Highway 57. Meldren had been shot twice in the head at close range.

The body was found by some boys riding four wheelers in the woods. Sheriff Byrd estimates the teen had been murdered only a few hours earlier.

Gautier High's Principal Wayne Rodolfich says, "You certainly don't expect to lose young people this way. The students, faculty and staff are grieving this loss."
