GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -
Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania is keeping a promise he made in late April. His department cracking down on what he calls the "criminal subculture."
From June 29 to July 2, officers executed search and arrest warrants. Sergeant Damon McDaniel said a total of 38 people, 15 of them for felony charges, were arrested during the roundup. The suspects were as young as teens to men and women in their 50's.
Police also seized drugs, guns and money during this operation.
McDaniel said the Gulfport Police Department was assisted by the Harrison County Sheriff's Department, The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Coastal Narcotics Enforcement Team, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
