BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

She's a 21 year old singer-songwriter with the number one country song in America right now. If you've not heard of Kelsea Ballerini yet, you soon will. WLOX News caught up with this up-and-coming country star at a "meet and greet" in Biloxi.

“Oh, that's cute, right?” said Ballerini, as she posed for an iPhone selfie with one of her many fans. Ballerini met with lucky fans Thursday before a K-99 sponsored free concert upstairs at The Reef in Biloxi.

She has a strong following in South Mississippi that's growing quickly.

“Having a fan base is a new thing. And it's been small and growing. To watch it grow and to go to these places where I came by on radio tour and no one knew who I was and having some people know who I am now, and make signs and all that stuff, is so much fun. I love getting to like meet the people that love my music and hug them and thank them,” said the singer-songwriter.

She's not only pretty and extremely talented; she's also down to earth. Especially for someone who's now part of an exclusive club of just 11 female country artists to hit number one with their debut single.

“The other women who have debuted with a number one, it's like Jesus Take the Wheel, Carrie Underwood. Strawberry Wine. These songs that are such staples in country music now. And these women who have had brilliant careers afterward. So it makes me so excited to just keep going and see what's down the road,” said Ballerini.

By the way, she doesn't mind the comparisons to T-Swift. Taylor is a fan and the two have hung out together.

As she told us, “I'll take a comparison to Taylor Swift any day of the week.”

But something tells us, this talented young woman will be carving her own music legacy. Her second single, Dibs, comes out soon.

“Dibs is one of my favorite songs on the album. It's my favorite song to perform live. And I'm really excited, I feel like it's a good summer song.  So I'm glad it's going to be out there during the summertime, so girls can like, roll down their windows and be like, ‘On your lips, on your kiss.’”
