Biloxi High School makes national education list

Biloxi High School recently made its way onto America's Most Challenging High Schools List by the Washington Post. BHS is the only high school in the state to receive the achievement.

The list takes into account the number of advanced tests, including Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education, given at the school each year as well as the number of seniors graduating.

“To be the only high school in the state recognized as one of America's Most Challenging High Schools by the Washington Post in their Equity and Excellence Survey is an honor as well as a testament to the superb job done by Biloxi High School's faculty, staff, students and parents,” BHS Principal Pamela Manners said. “I am extremely proud of Biloxi High School for their accomplishments!”

With Mississippi currently ranked 50th in education in the US, BHS is a step towards raising the bar.

This year, Mississippi voters launched the #FedUPWith50th grassroots movement in an effort to improve education in Mississippi. #FedUpWith50th hopes to gain more funding for Mississippi schools to uplift the ranking.

BHS brought Mississippi education attention to the national level, and with improvement, more schools in Mississippi could soon be following.
