Palazzo weighs in on state flag debate

Fourth District Congressman Steven Palazzo has weighed in on the call to change the state flag. Palazzo was on the coast to speak at a military event Monday. He said Mississippi is being pressured to change the state flag because of the Confederate battle emblem in the upper left hand corner.

He thinks the people should decide on the flag just as they did when they voted to keep the flag in 2001.
"They came out 2 to 1 to say we like our flag. We want to keep our flag. All of a sudden, because of the events in Charleston, which are tragic and sad and our prayers are with the victims and their families. This is a Mississippi matter. Outsiders need to bud out and stay out of our business. Here in the fourth Congressional district the people voted 75 percent to keep the flag as it is," he said.

Palazzo sent out a statement with the headline "Stop the Assault." He rejected the call to change the flag and criticized the Supreme Court ruling legalizing same sex marriage.
