BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

A Biloxi woman is facing child neglect charges, after police said she admitted to dropping a 13-month-old boy on the floor.

The infant was flown to Ochsner's Hospital in New Orleans with severe head trauma on Thursday. Biloxi police said the child was also malnourished and had several fractures and internal bleeding.

Investigators said 22-year-old Maria Pineda admitted to dropping the boy, which caused him to strike his head on the floor. Pineda also said the infant later had several seizures, which resulted in his head striking the floor again.

The child is listed in critical condition. Pineda was charged with felony child neglect and was issued a $500,000 bond. Police have not said how she is related to the infant.

Additional charges are possible, and anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Biloxi Police Department at 228-392-0641 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
