HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Despite a U.S. Supreme Court decision today legalizing same-sex marriage, couples are still waiting to get their licenses at the Harrison County Courthouse in Gulfport.

About 10 couples showed up as soon as the decision came down this morning, hoping to get a marriage license. But, a statement from Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood halted those plans.

Hood says the high court's decision will become effective in Mississippi once the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans lifts its stay of a pending same-sex case there.

Several couples say they are confused, but will remain at the courthouse for a few more hours, waiting for the go ahead from the AG's office.

Trang Pham Bui will have more on this sweeping story tonight on WLOX News and WLOX.com.
