BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - A Bay St. Louis businessman and board of supervisors candidate has appealed what he calls a harsh sentence to Circuit Court. Jeff Harding pleaded no contest to a charge of failure to comply with a lawful order.

The municipal court charge stems from an incident at a Bay St. Louis City Council meeting in April, where Harding was accused of making a gesture with his middle finger to a city council member. Police say when he was asked to leave the meeting, he refused.

Municipal Court Judge Steven Maggio sentenced Harding to 180 days in jail, but suspended 150 days, leaving Harding 30 days to serve, plus a $500 fine.

A court date has not been set in Circuit Court.
