JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Singing River Health System's two hospitals received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.

Singing River Hospital and Ocean Springs Hospital were praised on each hospital's commitment and success in ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment, according to a statement from SRHS.

The two hospitals are included in 726 other hospitals recognized for the Gold Plus Award.

"With a stroke, time lost is brian lost, and this award demonstrates our commitment to ensuring patients receive care based on nationally-respected clinical guidelines," said Dr. Randy Roth, Chief Medical Officer, Singing River Health System. "Singing River Health System is dedicated to improving the quality of stroke care and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines-Stroke helps us achieve that goal."

Hospitals must reach 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With Guidelines-Stroke achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month time frames, in order to be recognized with the Gold Quality Achievement award.

The hospitals must also reach 75 percent or higher compliance with five or eight Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality measures. The measures help hospitals give the most advanced, evidence based guidelines with the goal of speeding recovery and reducing death and disability for stroke patients.
