GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -
Mississippi Power and Gulfport fire officials are still monitoring a marsh fire that was sparked by a lightning strike near Plant Watson on Lorraine Road. Firefighters have been monitoring the situation since Tuesday afternoon.
“At no time has there been any danger to employees, the plant or its nearby facilities, and operations at the plant are proceeding safely as normal,” said Mississippi Power spokesman Bill Snyder.
Gulfport Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt said the fire is in an area that cannot be accessed by fire trucks, so they are going to let the flames burns themselves out. He said no structures are threatened, and the area is largely surrounded by water.
