BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi Gulf Coast's oldest Carnival organization has a new Captain and Lieutenant. The Board of Directors announced Sunday that Steve Polk will serve as Captain of Carnival for the next two years. David John Machado has been chosen as his Lieutenant.

Polk served as Lieutenant Captain for the past two Carnivals. The Biloxi resident will be in charge of coordinating all aspects of the Mardi Gras celebration.

Machado's family has been involved with Carnival for several generations, starting with his grandmother in 1917. He lives in Gulfport with his wife Donna.

The next big event for the Gulf Coast Carnival Association is the Summer Social and Silent Auction. It takes place at the Island View Casino on July 25.
