CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Crowds began gathering hours ahead of the scheduled start time of the church service at Emanuel AME Church in downtown Charleston Sunday morning.

The service, scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., will be the first service since Wednesday night's deadly shooting that claimed the lives of nine people. The worship service is expected to be conducted by Elder D. Norvel Goff. Mobile users can watch a live stream of the service here: http://shout.lt/6dbv

Sunday morning Bible study was scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m.

SLIDESHOW: Community shows support for Charleston shooting victims

The church's pastor, the Rev. Clementa Pickney, who was also a state senator for South Carolina, was one of the victims of the shooting that followed a bible study at the historic AME church.

Police arrested Dylann Roof, 21, a day after the shooting during a traffic stop in Shelby, North Carolina. He is charged with nine counts of murder, and one count of possession of a firearm during a violent crime. Roof remains in custody in Charleston County. Officials say the alleged gunman opened fire after joining the church members for an hour-long bible study.
