GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) -

Thousands of Ingalls shipbuilders got a first look at the new state-of-the-art healthcare facility that will provide vital medical services to them and their families.

It was a Saturday celebration in Gautier as Mississippi's largest private employer cut the ribbon on this family health center that will be available to more than 11,000 employees and their dependents.

“It will allow them to have everything from wellness checks, routine exams, screenings and you can have your x-rays, your blood work, you can talk with a nutritionist, ” said Edmond Hughes, Vice President of Human Resources and Administration.

Nearly 40 year shipbuilder Willie Perkins and his wife toured the spacious facility. They look at it as a one stop shop for all their health needs.

“You can come to the doctor, you can get your prescription filled, and you can get it done all in one place at one stop. I think it is going to be a big asset,” said Perkins.

Shipbuilder Larry Girouard brought his grandkids to the opening and agrees the health center will be a timesaver.

“It will be a welcome blessing. It is offering something that we hadn't had in the past. A lot of times you have to go to the emergency room or try to get your doctor, where this will be available six days a week,” said Girouard.

The medical services here are expected to be easy on the pocket. It's a $15 fee per visit and preventive care visits are free. There is also a pharmacy area that will offer a 30-day supply of generic prescription medication for as low as $3.

“I think it is a great idea. I think it is going to help out with rise in health insurance and I think it is going to a big asset to the company and the employees. They can finally get healthcare at affordable costs,” said Perkins.

Ingalls officials are confident this new endeavor will help build an even healthier workforce.

“As you know the work that we do is difficult, hard work and in extreme conditions and we want our employees to be as healthy as possible,” Hughes said.

The family health center officially opens July 1. Ingalls is partnering With the QuadMed Company to help facilitate the medical needs of the employees at the new facility.
