Coroner: One dead in late night Picayune shooting

PICAYUNE, MS (WLOX) -

Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage confirms to WLOX News one man was killed in a shooting off Richardson Road in Picayune late Thursday night.

Turnage said 21-year-old Dalton O'Meara was shot at his home, and he later died at Highland Community Hospital.

Pearl River County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said 48-year-old Darin Galmiche has been arrested in relation to the fatal shooting.

Tucker said O'Meara lived in a mobile home behind Galmiche's house at 114 Richardson Road.

According to investigators, O'Meara, his girlfriend and a small child arrived home at the trailer late Thursday night.

Tucker said Galmiche was upset about something, and he eventually fired a rifle several times at O'Meara. Tucker said O'Meara was struck one or more times, and family members transported him to the hospital.

Turnage said an autopsy for O'Meara has been scheduled for Saturday in Jackson.
