3 accused in Waveland pill mill case still negotiating plea deal

WAVELAND, MS (WLOX) -

A doctor and two others accused of selling prescriptions for cash in Waveland have been given more time to negotiate a plea with the government. But the doctor isn't getting out of jail until the charges are resolved.

Doctor Steve Morris, Peggy Laporte, and Brittany Spikes each facing 57 charges, one charge of conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, and 56 other charges for selling, distributing or dispensing a controlled substance. If convicted on all charges, each defendant faces more than 500 years in prison.

Morris, Laporte, and Spikes now have until October 13, 2015 to change their plea. Trial for all three defendants is now set for November 2, 2015.

Laporte and Spikes have been allowed bond, but a judge this week again denied bond for Morris.
