BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - A tribute ceremony will take place on Friday, honoring those who were a part of what is considered the first public challenge to segregation laws in Mississippi. In 1963, a group of predominately African Americans held a wade-in at Biloxi Beach to desegregate the beach.

The event will run from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Biloxi Beach seawall civil rights historical marker, located across from the Biloxi lighthouse on Highway 90.

The NAACP and the steps coalition is putting on the event.
