GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Hundreds of people may have to go hungry if the Salvation Army does not get any food donations soon.

The organization's food pantry in Gulfport has only a week's worth of food left to feed about 200 people. More than 1,000 people are expected to come in for food this month.

The staff said while donations have dropped, children are out of school for the summer and many people are out of work. They're reaching out to churches, businesses and other non-profits to help replenish the shelves.

"We don't want to think about that at this moment, because the Salvation Army is known for giving hope, but if the donations don't come in and we don't have anything to give, that means the food pantry will shut down," said social service program coordinator Stacy Crandle.

If you can donate some food, there are several drop off locations: the Salvation Army Food Pantry on 22nd Street, the Family Store in Gulfport, or the Kroc Center in Biloxi.
