Two boaters found dead in Pass Christian

PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - Marine divers have recovered the bodies of two boaters who went missing late Tuesday night in Pass Christian.

Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said the boaters were reported missing around 11:00 p.m. When sheriff's deputies responded to the scene, they found a truck and an empty trailer, but no sign of the boaters. There was also no one at either of their homes.

The Marine Patrol and Coast Guard then joined the search, and found a small skiff vessel capsized about 200 yards west of the Merlin Necaise Boat Launch on West Wittman Rd.

At 4:38 a.m., Marine Patrol divers found the body of 51-year-old Alphonze Dedeaux of Pass Christian. Later in the morning, divers found the body of the second boater, 56-year-old Gerald Ellis of Pass Christian.

The coroner has ruled both deaths accidental due to drowning.
