Summer shortage in donations at The Salvation Army

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Each summer The Salvation Army experiences a slump in donations, now the food pantry is taking a hit. Social Services Director Stacy Crandle says the current supply is at half of what they normally have.

Crandle says the organization is now seeing working class families who used to donate, come in to get food because they are suffering. Every day, individuals and families across the Mississippi Gulf Coast turn to The Salvation Army to help stretch their financial resources. Whether due to loss of job, under employment, or unexpected bills many in our area are struggling to pay the bills and keep food on the table. Many are faced with the decision to leave the light bill unpaid in order to keep food on the table.

Crandle says every donation goes a long way, "that there is so much that one person can do to help a needy family."

To drop off a donation you can stop by the Salvation Army at 2019 22nd St, Gulfport, or schedule a pickup of your donations, call (228) 497-0169.
