BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -
The Biloxi Shuckers have made an instant impact in the Southern League, having clinched the first half of the South Division with 6 games remaining.
That wrapped-up a playoff slot...not bad when you consider the Shuckers had to play 54 consecutive games on the road while MGM Park was under construction.
Success means a number of the Shuckers young players will be promoted and that's exactly what has happened.
Shuckers play-by-play announced Chris Harris said, "Today was a great day for Kyle Wren who was hitting .397. So far, during the month of June, he upped his average from .197 from April 28 to where it stands right now at .300. He gets promoted to Colorado Springs."
Right handed pitcher Hiram Burgos who posted a 3-0 record with a 3.68 earned run average was also promoted to Colorado Springs.
Harris says a new player was added to the Shuckers roster, someone to keep an eye on...23-year-old Victor Roache.
"He was a first round pick in 2012, coming from Brevard County," stated Harris. "Power hitting guy. He had ten home runs in the Florida State League this year. A guy who can really hit the ball a long way. So, Victor Roache...keep an eye on that name. He'll be joining us for the series starting with Montgomery. Great young talent."
Shuckers manager Carlos Subero has tabbed Right handed pitcher Jorge Lopez with the starting assignment on Wednesday. Lopez is 4 and 2 with a 3.34 earned run average.
The Biscuits will go with Ryne Stanek. He's 2 and 0 with a 2.29 ERA.
