BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

MGM Resorts International sent out a press release Tuesday afternoon saying the head of the Beau Rivage, George Corchis, Jr., had resigned from that post. Corchis said that's not the case.

"I did not resign. I want to make it very, very clear. The company has decided to go in a new direction, and I'm not part of this new direction," said Corchis. "We triumphed through extreme situations, and we persevered and had tremendous leadership from the state and community following Katrina. I think this community is a big part of my life.”

Corchis oversaw operations at Beau Rivage and Gold Strike Tunica during his tenure as President and COO of MGM Resorts International's Southern Operations. He also served as a board member for MGM Grand Detroit.

Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts Jim Murren wished Corchis luck in his future pursuits and pointed out his leadership over the past 10 years. Corchis said he wishes the same for the Coast, Beau Rivage and its employees

“He was instrumental in the restoration of Beau Rivage in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and most recently, played a key role in the construction of the Minor League Baseball stadium on Beau Rivage land, which opened on June 6,” the statement said.

“I wish everyone the very best in prosperity, tourism and economic development. I think there's a bright future here on the Coast. I'm proud of our team at our properties and the people, it's always going to be about people. I'm grateful for the tremendous success in our accomplishments and relationships over the last decade.”

MGM Resorts issued a clarification later Tuesday night saying Corchis did not resign, but he is no longer with the company.

The company said an announcement about future leadership for Beau Rivage will be announced when it is available.
