GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Passengers flying out of Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport may now move through security screening faster than before.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has started the Pre-Check program in an effort to expedite the screening program while still providing new intelligence-driven, risk-based screening procedures and enhancing its use of technology.

According to the TSA, the program allows "select" Gulfport flyers to leave their shoes on, lighter outerwear and belt, keep laptop in its case and keep 311 compliant liquids and gels in their carry-on bag.

"Having TSA Pre-check at our airport is a great convenience for our passengers," said Gulfport-Biloxi Regional Airport Authority Executive Director Clay Williams. "We appreciate the partnership with TSA to provide many of our travelers this expedited screening experience."

U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents may enroll for the TSA Pre-Check program by visiting tsa.gov and clicking the application center to provide biographic information.

Information needed includes: fingerprints, U.S. passport, government issued I.D. with current address and U.S. birth certificate/valid immigration documentation.

The application fee is $85 and membership lasts five years. Six hundred ninety South Mississippians have enrolled in the program. An enrollment center is open M-F 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. and is located at 477 32nd Street, Gulfport, MS 39507-2408.
