MDOT to conduct contraflow drill Tuesday

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Crews with the Mississippi Department of Transportation will be working on a contraflow drill on Tuesday. The drill will take place on Interstate 59.

The contraflow drill will give MDOT personnel across South Mississippi an opportunity to test hurricane preparedness plans along the interstate and the Coastal Evacuation Plan around Hattiesburg.

The contraflow drill will not involve actual lane closures or reversals. You will see workers out moving equipment during the exercise.

"This important exercise ensures the readiness of MDOT's emergency response plans. While more than 100 MDOT personnel will engage in the contraflow drill, traffic should not be impacted in any way during the exercise," said Southern District Transportation Commissioner Tom King.

If a tropical storm nears the Coast, MDOT will also help the State of Louisiana by implementing contraflow for Interstate 59 and Interstate 55.
