Biloxi Shuckers win fourth straight with 2-1 victory over the Mississippi Braves

PEARL, MS (WLOX) - Manager Carlos Subero gave some of his starters a rest, a day after clinching the Southern League South Division first half title.

In what turned into a pitching contest, the Shuckers held off the Braves 2-1.  Brent Suter worked six innings for Biloxi.  He gave up 3 hits and struck out 5 Braves batters to improve to 4-2 on the season with a 1.97 earned run average.

Tyrell Jenkins (4-4, 2.84 ERA) pitched seven innings for Mississippi.  He gave up 5 hits and only one run with four strikeouts, but suffered the loss.

Brandon Macias led off the top of the third inning for Biloxi with a solo home run.  It stayed that way until the top of the ninth.  Taylor Green singled home Michael Reed that gave the Shuckers a little cushion and it proved to be the winning run.

In the bottom of the ninth Mississippi plated a run, but despite giving up a run, Damien Magnifico posted his seventh save on the season.  He gave up a hit with 2 strikeouts in the bottom of the night.

Mike Strong pitched an inning and didn't give up any hits with a strikeout.  Manny Barreda pitched a scoreless inning and had three strikeouts.

Michael Reed was 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored.  One of his two hits was a double.  Nathan Orf was 2 for 4.

The Shuckers picked up win Number 40 on the season against 24 losses.  The Braves fell to 32-31.

Biloxi will have Tuesday off before returning to MGM Park Wednesday night at 7:10, a date with the Montgomery Biscuits, game one of a five-game home stand.
