Manager Carlos Subero gave some of his starters a rest, a day after clinching the Southern League South Division first half title.
In what turned into a pitching contest, the Shuckers held off the Braves 2-1. Brent Suter worked six innings for Biloxi. He gave up 3 hits and struck out 5 Braves batters to improve to 4-2 on the season with a 1.97 earned run average.
Tyrell Jenkins (4-4, 2.84 ERA) pitched seven innings for Mississippi. He gave up 5 hits and only one run with four strikeouts, but suffered the loss.
Brandon Macias led off the top of the third inning for Biloxi with a solo home run. It stayed that way until the top of the ninth. Taylor Green singled home Michael Reed that gave the Shuckers a little cushion and it proved to be the winning run.
In the bottom of the ninth Mississippi plated a run, but despite giving up a run, Damien Magnifico posted his seventh save on the season. He gave up a hit with 2 strikeouts in the bottom of the night.
Mike Strong pitched an inning and didn't give up any hits with a strikeout. Manny Barreda pitched a scoreless inning and had three strikeouts.
Michael Reed was 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored. One of his two hits was a double. Nathan Orf was 2 for 4.
The Shuckers picked up win Number 40 on the season against 24 losses. The Braves fell to 32-31.
Biloxi will have Tuesday off before returning to MGM Park Wednesday night at 7:10, a date with the Montgomery Biscuits, game one of a five-game home stand.
