POPLARVILLE, MS (WLOX) - The clouds parted long enough Saturday to let the blueberries shine at the 32nd annual Blueberry Jubilee in downtown Poplarville.

The rain couldn't stop this celebration. Not in Poplarville. And not when it comes to blueberries. It just was a good reason to cool down.

This year's Blueberry Jubilee had about 200 vendors serving food and fun to 5,000 and 7,000 people.

On blueberry row, the main attraction was front and center in the raw, the muffin and in the cup.

“People really love blueberries because of their health benefits,” said vendor Ethan Goggans of Sandy Run Farms in Hattiesburg. “They are high in antioxidants and they're very healthy to eat. They're becoming more and more popular. They're in a lot of different products and it's just a really good fruit.”

But the event had more than one food offering throughout the downtown area.

And more than one activity to work up a good sweat: like gymnastics, rocking music, and a little climbing, scrambling and hopping.

Clifton Worley of Poplarville has been coming to this event for the last 10 years. His 4-year-old daughter hasn't missed a jump.

“Well, it's a good family friendly, clean event,” he said. “Got a lot of great food: barbecue, frozen lemonade, blueberries. I can just eat ‘em straight, but blueberry cobbler's good too.”

Fred Sullivan of Diamondhead and his family are first-timers to the event.

“I like it. It's a family atmosphere,” he said. “It's a beautiful day, we're have a great time. Got my two sons here, Randy and Logan. And we're just glad we got to enjoy this. I see a lot of people from different parts of the Coast here. So, we've enjoyed that. I think the arts and crafts - just the diverse interests that are showing up today is what we're enjoying.”
