PEARL, MS (WLOX) -
Rain delayed the Shuckers-Braves Southern League game Friday night at Trustmark Park in Pearl Friday night. After an hour and five minute delay both teams hit the playing field.
It was Biloxi coming up with a big night at the plate while Shuckers pitcher Jorge Lopez kept the Braves at bay.
Biloxi (37-24) exploded for a team-record six runs in the top of the fifth inning against the Braves (32-28) to take a 9-1 lead. In the inning Nick Ramirez hit a two run double. Tyrone Taylor followed with a double that plate Ramirez. Taylor Green singled home Tyrone Taylor. Pitcher Jorge Lopez helped his own cause with an RBI single and Nathan Orf hit a line drive to the Braves third baseman. On a throwing error the Shuckers plated their sixth run in the inning.
Lopez (3.34 ERA) posted his fourth win of the season against 2 losses. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits with 4 strikeouts in six innings. He was 2 for 4 with that 1 RBI.
Ramirez went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Green had 2 hits in 5 trips to the plate, drove home 2 runs and scored a run. Orlando Arcia had 3 hits in 6 at-bats with a run scored and an RBI. Kyle Wren was 3 for 5 with two runs scored.
The win evened up the series at one game apiece. The series continues 6:00 p.m. Saturday in Pearl.
Shuckers manager Carlos Subero will send lefty Hobbs Johnson (3-3, 3.46 ERA) against Braves right handed pitcher Victor Mateo (3-2, 2.45 ERA) in Saturday's Southern League confrontation.
