New Orleans Saints add veteran defensive lineman to the 2015 NFL roster

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WLOX) - To shore up the defensive line, the New Orleans Saints signed defensive tackle Kevin Williams to a one-year contract and waived tight end Harold Spears.

The 6-5, 311 pound Williams has played in the NFL for 12 seasons and was the 9th overall draft pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, selected by Minnesota, after a stellar college career at Oklahoma State.

He played 11 seasons with the Vikings and last season with Seattle.

Williams has 495 career tackles, 353 solo stops, 63 sacks, eight forced fumbles, 13 fumble recoveries and five interceptions.

He's started all nine postseason contests he's appeared in and recorded 24 stops (17 solo) and one fumble recovery.

Williams played in all 16 regular season games in his first season at Seattle in 2014 and started eight games.

He rang-up 29 tackles (17 solo), three sacks and two passes defensed.  In three postseason contests for the Seahawks, Williams made eight tackles (six solo).

He's a six-time Pro Bowl selection and was a five-time Associated Press first-team All-Pro selection.

Williams was named to the 2000s All-Decade Team, chosen by members of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
