GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -
Steve Williams along with Kent Jones got the ball rolling in coming up with an annual Gulfport Sports Hall of Fame, honoring athletes who made an impact on the high school, college and pro level.
It has become reality and is proving to be a huge success in this the second-year.
Williams said, "All the talent Gulfport has had throughout the years, we finally got a chance to put it all together and bring everyone back that is so deserving to be honored."
Former Gulfport High School track and field head coach and athletic director Prince Jones, who was a member of the Gulfport Sports Hall of Fame class of 2014, has been assisting in the selection process.
"We have worked hard to put this one together and we just look forward to seeing it, "stated Jones. "We've got a real strong class and the ironic part about it, Mississippi State had four inductees: Bill Bell, Fred Collins, Jerry Jenkins and Ronnie Cuevas. So, that's saying a lot for Gulfport. All of them were great athletes. I've said all along, Gulfport is just a city that has been gifted with a lot of good athletes."
A total of 15 new members will be inducted into the Class of 2015.
