Developer Gets Permission To Cut Protected Trees For New Apartments

The Biloxi Planning Commission gave developers permission to remove seven protected trees for an apartment complex on Oakwood Drive.

The developers have greatly scaled back their plan, which at one time required cutting down more than a dozen trees.

Planning Commission Director Ed Shambra says the plans now call for one building instead of two, six one-bedroom apartments and 22 two-bedroom units. Parking will be located between the property and the nearby homes.

Residents have complained about the project, saying it's too big for their small neighborhood. Unless an appeal is filed, Shambra says the commission's vote will stand.
