BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Biloxi's new leader is making tourism a priority. Wednesday, Mayor FoFo Gilich met with the Mississippi Hotel and Lodging Association for the first time to discuss his vision. Gilich says he is looking forward to all that he can accomplish in Biloxi, especially on the tourism side, with the help of the lodging association.

“I think the fact that he's talking about tourism in the same breath with all of the other aspects of running a city. I think that is so wonderful,” said Linda Hornsby, who is the Executive Director of Mississippi Hotel and Lodging Association.

Despite having been in office for less than a month and having plenty of items to check off his to-do list, Gilich is making tourism talk a top priority.

“It sends a strong message that he wants to be plugged in to tourism. He really wants to be plugged in to tourism. He realizes its importance, and tourism can take many forms. He understands that, and that's really exciting to see a mayor show up to a meeting like this today,” said Kenny Glavan, who is the President of the Mississippi Hotel and Lodging Association.

The new mayor says having a partnership with Mississippi Hotel and Lodging Association leaders is integral in making Biloxi a place where people want to vacation.

“You need the lodging, you know, the association to meet the various spectrums people want, people want to visit,” said Gilich.

MGM Park has been open for less than a week, but Gilich and team leaders already have big plans for the stadium. Gilich believes it's a centerpiece for some great tourism attractions to come, and he already has an idea of what he wants to model it after.

“We're going to do some things in downtown to make the ball games that everybody's been enjoying like Beale Street,” said Gilich.

They also have a minor league baseball team in the downtown area, and he thinks Biloxi could use their set up as a blue print.
