Crosby Commons unites Picayune's past with its future

Picayune has found a way to turn an empty hospital complex on a main city road into a spot that everybody can enjoy.

Two years ago, Picayune purchased the old Crosby Memorial Hospital, and demolished the complex. City leaders decided to replace the vacant hospital with a park. The green space will be called Crosby Commons. The sod being used for that park comes from Picayune High School's football field.

A news release from Picayune touts Crosby Commons as a place where "lifelong residents of Picayune who were born at Crosby Memorial Hospital and also walked across the football field at Picayune Memorial High School to receive their diplomas, can now enjoy all that Crosby Commons has to offer, while reminiscing about the history that's been preserved and incorporated."

A Crosby Commons dedication ceremony begins Monday morning at 10:00.
