BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The countdown to the final hours of MGM Park opening its gates is coming to an end, putting us a bit more than 24 hours away from the first pitch to be thrown at the stadium.
Excitement sparked at the team's store in downtown Biloxi, when a limited number of tickets became available. The line didn't wrap around the team store like the first day of sales, but fans were still there bright and early Friday morning to get their tickets.
"What time did you guys get here?" I asked one fan.
"Seven," Andrea Borst and her friend responded.
"What time did you get here to get your ticket?" I asked Ruthie Lawrence. "At 8:15. I would've gotten here earlier but I was reading the paper and that's when I saw it and I went, 'Ok! Let me run down here and get a ticket!'" she replied in laughter.
The doors opened at 10 a.m. and the tickets went fast. After experiencing an internet glitch from the high volume of traffic on TickerMaster from the first day of sales, box office manager Allan Lusk says they learned their lesson. And he was able to get the fans that came to the team store in and out of the door a lot faster.
"We weren't really sure how that worked. You know, timed if TickerMaster was going to sell them, we're going to sell them or how that works if there's so many of them so we didn't really know what to expect," Borst said.
"For me, to get excited about a baseball team to be here. And it's the first and you're happy to be doing something when it's the first," Lawrence said.
After purchasing their tickets, Shuckers fans couldn't help but take a walk around the team store to pick up some gear for the first big game.
"I've already bought two shirts last time, so I'm going to get a couple more. Yeah, why not?" Jim Swanson said.
The gates to MGM Park will open on Saturday at 5 p.m. The first pitch of the inaugural game is set for 7:10 p.m.
