HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The Infinity Science Center in Hancock County kicked off its summer-long "Wear It Wednesday" program. It's an educational experience to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first American Spacewalk.

An expert on the space suits worn by astronauts during the days of the space shuttle flights gave the crowd a close up look at the $150 million space suits. They are made of 7 different layers of fabrics and materials, and they contain equipment that allows water to flow through them for cooling.

Officials say NASA is looking to develop a new space suit for its new mission for walks on planets man has never walked before.

"Wear It Wednesday" features a variety of suits people wear to protect themselves in extreme environments.
