BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Two businesses are playing a part in helping homeless veterans. On Tuesday Keesler Federal Credit Union partnered with Humana to collect items for veterans that need basic supplies.

The 334th Gators, a training squadron at Keesler Air Force Base, donated boots from former students and others on base also gave donations.

The donations should be distributed to homeless veterans by the end of June, officials said.

"All year round we'll get donations for the veterans and we notify Human if we get a load for them and then they'll come and pick them up. And so we're like a drop off point here on the base for the veterans," said Keesler Federal Credit Union Branch Manager Gary Fulton.

"Humana, a couple years ago started a veterans initiative. We really wanted to help impact the veteran community. People especially coming back from deployments, separated from the service and it just basically morphed into from that. We realized that there was a huge need here on the Gulf Coast for our homeless veterans," said Joe Walker with Humana.

This is the second year the two organizations have taken part in the donation.
