New festival teaches important safety skills

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Learning self defense, practicing fire safety and helping prevent burglaries. Those were among the topics covered at the Biloxi Civic Center Saturday at the first “Safety Fest”.  

A mixed martial arts instructor provided some basic self defense tips, Biloxi firefighters talked about CPR and the importance of creating a “home escape plan”, and a Biloxi police officer discussed ways to prevent auto burglaries. 

Victoria Garriga helped organize this first safety event. She said it was in response to a number of crimes along the gulf coast.  “I wanted to help bring some peace of mind,” she said, by helping people learn ways of staying safe.
