JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A robbery suspect is recovering from injuries sustained in a car crash after leading Jackson County authorities on a chase that ended near the Alabama state line.
Gautier police Capt. Jerry Cooksey said the chase started after a woman flagged down a police officer around 10:30 a.m., saying she had just been robbed. She gave police a description of the vehicle, and officers immediately began the search.
Just minutes later, officers found the vehicle heading northbound on Ladnier Road. Cooksey said the driver, identified as Charles Windham, 45, of New Orleans, refused to stop and sped north towards Highway 90.
Cooksey said Windham then continued eastbound on Hwy. 90 through Pascagoula and into Jackson County near the Alabama state line.
The pursuit ended when Windham lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of Hwy. 90 and Franklin Creek Road. Cooksey said Windham was taken to Singing River Hospital to be treated for his injuries, and charges of felony eluding, failing to yield to blue lights and sirens and reckless driving are pending.
Gautier police were assisted by the Pascagoula Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
