BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - A familiar face on the Coast was honored Thursday. Former WLOX Chief Meteorologist Mike Reader received an award from Mississippi Emergency Management Agency Director Robert Latham.
Reader spoke at a hurricane summit and was recognized for the 30 years he spent keeping people in South Mississippi informed. He retired a few months ago and appreciated the special honor.
"It was nice," said Reader. "Anytime you get recognized for 30 years of hard work, you feel good about it. After Elena, I got a letter from Ronald Reagan for my work. That was pretty neat. This is right there with it, to get recognition from the state. It's pretty good."
Reader said he plans to volunteer with the Harrison County Emergency Management Agency during hurricane season.
