BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Beginning Saturday morning through midnight on Monday the Department of Marine Resources (DMR) officers issued eight citations and 19 warnings, according to DMR public information officer Melissa Scallan.
The citations included one boating under the influence citation and the rest were boat and water safety violations.
According to Scallan, officers checked 141 vessels and 615 people. In 2014, officers issued 67 citations.
“We believe boaters heeded the call for consideration of others and our warning not to drink and boat, based on the low numbers of citations issued during the holiday,” said Keith Davis, chief of Marine Patrol. “We commend boaters for ensuring the safety of their families and others.”
Thirty-three Marine Patrol officers, nine reserve officers and five dispatchers worked over the holiday enforcement period.
