Memorial Day observances in South Mississippi

Memorial Day is the time to remember the sacrifices of American veterans. 1.3 million Americans have died in wars, fighting for our freedoms. A number of observances are scheduled in South Mississippi.

Biloxi: The annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Biloxi National Cemetery will begin at 9 a.m. The guest speaker will be Captain Paul Odenthal, commanding officer of the Naval Battalion Construction Center. The Biloxi National Cemetery is located at 400 Veterans Ave.

Gulfport: The city along and VFW Post 2539 are teaming up for a ceremony. The even will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Barksdale Pavilion in Jones Park, located at 2250 Jones Park Dr.

Gautier: The Second Annual Avenue of Flags Ceremony program will be held held at the American Legion Hall , located at 3824 Old Spanish Trail. The city and the American Legion Post 1992 are teaming up to put on the event.

Bay St. Louis: The American legion post 139 is having a memorial day ceremony at 10 a.m. The event will be at St. Mary's Cemetery located at 228 South Beach Blvd.
