Huntsville, Alabama -
Pitching has been a highlight for the Biloxi Shuckers all-season long and pitching once again was a factor in the victory. Shuckers starting pitcher Brent Suter tossed six shutout innings and matched a season-high six strikeouts at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.
Suter notched his third win of the season against one loss.
Suter said, "I felt good. My command was better than it's been all year I'd say. I was staying down in the zone and everything worked off the fastball pretty nicely tonight."
The Shuckers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Nick Shaw hit an RBI groundout to bring home Brandon Macias. Shaw was 1 for 3 at the plate, drove in two runs, scored a run and had a double.
Biloxi exploded for three runs in the fifth inning. Parker Berberet had a good night at the plate. He was 2 for 3 with a run scored. He singled in the inning and on a throwing error Macias moved to third. Shaw followed with a double that plated Macias and Berberet raced down to third base.
Shaw scored on an error by Barons pitcher Mark Blackmar.
Jacob Barnes pitched a perfect seventh and eighth inning before Birmingham scored a run with two outs in the ninth. Mike Strong got the call and he picked up the save by closing the door on the Barons.
The Shuckers extended their winning streak to six games and take aim on a seventh straight Saturday night at 7:10.
The Shuckers will go with right handed pitcher Tyler Wagner (5-0, 1.91 ERA). The Barons will call on right handed pitcher Tyler Barnette (1-2, 1.83 ERA).
